Pig Fattening Nutrition for Healthy Growth and Better Feed Efficiency
A coordinated program for phase feeding, feed utilization, housing, health control and consistent pork quality.

As pigs grow, producers need to protect daily gain and feed efficiency without losing control of health, carcass consistency or eating quality. The right approach is a complete program: formulate by phase, monitor intake and growth, keep the house stable, and use feed additives for clearly defined nutritional objectives.
1. What a practical pig-fattening program should achieve
Match the growth stage
Piglets, growers and finishers do not have the same energy, amino-acid, vitamin or mineral requirements. Phase feeding reduces the risk of an under-supplied or unnecessarily expensive ration.
Protect feed utilization
Feed quality, water availability, gut condition, mixing accuracy and mycotoxin control all influence how much of the ration is converted into useful growth.
Keep pigs comfortable
Temperature, air movement, stocking density, flooring and hygiene affect appetite and stress. Management must support the ration rather than work against it.
Measure the outcome
Track feed intake, average daily gain, feed conversion, mortality, uniformity and carcass observations so that formulation changes can be evaluated objectively.
2. Four operating priorities for finishing pigs
Feed formulation and phase feeding
Build the ration around the production stage, ingredient quality and target performance. Confirm energy density, digestible amino acids, vitamins, minerals and the mixing ratio of every premix. Amino acid balance matters because excess protein does not automatically create better growth, while a deficiency can limit lean tissue development.
Feeding management
Use a consistent feeding schedule and keep feeders clean, dry and correctly adjusted. Observe eating behavior, daily intake, sorting, fines and wastage. Clean water with adequate flow is part of the feed program; water restriction can reduce intake and make feed results difficult to interpret.
Housing and environment
Maintain suitable temperature, ventilation and dryness for the age and density of the pigs. During hot weather, improve air exchange and water access, reduce avoidable handling stress and review the ration if intake changes. A comfortable house helps the pig use nutrients for growth instead of constant environmental adaptation.
Health, biosecurity and feed safety
Routine cleaning, traffic control, vaccination planning and early observation help protect performance. Store feed in a dry, traceable system and review mycotoxin risk in raw materials. A feed additive should support a defined nutrition or feed-safety objective; it is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or biosecurity.
3. Improving pork quality and consistency
- Start with sound genetics and a realistic target. Growth rate, lean deposition, fat deposition and meat quality are influenced by genetics as well as nutrition.
- Keep the environment stable. Avoid unnecessary heat, crowding, sudden feed changes and rough handling that can increase stress.
- Use a balanced ration. Vitamins, minerals and amino acids should be reviewed together with energy, protein quality and ingredient digestibility.
- Support gut and feed safety. Acidifiers, phytogenic products or other functional additives should be selected for the actual farm context and confirmed with the current specification.
- Plan the pre-slaughter period. Follow local rules and the buyer’s quality protocol for transport, rest, feed withdrawal and handling. Do not treat a feed additive as a guarantee of carcass or eating quality.
4. How Viwors products fit the swine program
Viwors does not position one product as a replacement for complete feed management. We help importers, feed mills and integrators select a combination that matches the animal stage, feed format, raw-material risk and market documentation needs.
