Aquaculture Water Quality and Feed: A Practical Farm Checklist
Feed management and water quality cannot be separated in aquaculture. Uneaten feed, poor pellet stability and overfeeding can increase organic load, while low oxygen can reduce appetite and growth.
Daily checks
- Observe feeding response and uneaten feed.
- Check dissolved oxygen, temperature and pH.
- Inspect animal behavior and size uniformity.
- Record feed amount, pond and weather conditions.
Feed additive considerations
Functional additives may support digestion, attractability or stress management, but the right product depends on species and farm conditions. Evaluate any change with a baseline and keep water parameters in the review.
Build the whole system
Good seed quality, stocking density, aeration, biosecurity and feed storage are as important as the additive. A supplier should help clarify application, storage and compatibility with the feed program.
